in hospital 和 in the hospital 的區(qū)別只有在英式英語才有，美式英語是沒有區(qū)別的。

英式英語：1）in hospital = 病人，生病在醫(yī)院里躺著My brother was hit by a car and he is in hospital now.（英式英語：表示病人）2）in the hospital = 拜訪的人，或是在醫(yī)院工作的人（比如醫(yī)生和護士）。今本上不是住院的病人都可以用 in the hospital.My brother was hit by a car, and I am going to visit him in the hospital.（英式英語：表示住院了，而我要去探望他，但我本身不是病人）美式英語：1）in hospital = in the hospital = 既可以是住院病人，也可以是工作者，或是拜訪者。如何區(qū)別在于句子的語義。比如：My brother was hit by a car and he is in the hospital now.（美式英語：表示病人）在英語的語法中，定冠詞 the 特指建筑物，表示這個建筑物有關的人。而沒有了定冠詞 the，表示這個建筑物可以提供什么服務。類似這樣的還有in class = 在上課in the class =在教室里，但不一定在上課
