Curr Biol 2006; Ma et al. PNAS, in press). An unusual genotype of this pathogen is responsible for the ongoing Vancouver Island Outbreak and the purpose of this project is to determine the molecular factors that have driven hypervirulence in this lineage.The post will exploit a combination of microbiology, next-generation sequencing and high-resolution live cell imaging in order to investigate the evolution and mechanism of virulence in this fatal fungal pathogen." Applicants must have a first degree and have completed or be about to complete a PhD in a biological or biomedical field." Proven experience, ideally demonstrated via a strong publication record, of molecular biology/cell biology/microbiology/genetic techniques is essential" Experience of working with fungal pathogens or mitochondria would be very advantageous."
