英國作為一個島國，有著豐富的旅游資源和會議組織管理經(jīng)驗，酒店業(yè)也是相當發(fā)達，開設旅游酒店管理的各大高校基本上都與當?shù)厣踔寥驑I(yè)界有著緊密的聯(lián)系。很多最早的旅游和酒店管理專業(yè)的課程都是在英國首創(chuàng)的，在這一點上來看，英國擁有其他國家所無可比擬的專業(yè)知識和經(jīng)驗。

傳統(tǒng)的英式旅游和酒店管理教學，比較擅長管家式的服務管理。英國的商科世界領先，所以其酒店管理專業(yè)更偏重管理。像瑞士或者法國的一些旅游和酒店管理專業(yè)著重從與酒店管理的各種細節(jié)性問題學起，包括客房布置、前臺接待等各種服務細節(jié)，一直學習到管理。而英國的旅游和酒店管理專業(yè)更加著重管理方面，細節(jié)性問題更多的是在實習的過程中學習，這更加符合當前國際上酒店業(yè)擴張的需要。

英國的旅游管理專業(yè)學習內容

酒店、旅游、會展這三個專業(yè)方向的學生通常都屬于同一個院系，因為他們所學習的專業(yè)技能有很多相通之處。而他們的區(qū)別在于： 酒店管理方向更偏重于學習酒店、餐廳、宴會及活動的運作。課程涉及質量管理、最流行的食品和飲品、前臺以及客房服務技能等。

會展管理方向的課程內容相對更加全面，包括：如何策劃、宣傳和執(zhí)行一項活動 ; 這里所說的活動形式會更加多樣化，從小型婚禮到大型會議，或者諸如 American super bowl( 美國超級碗 ) 之類的大型賽事都是要學習的內容。

旅游管理方向的學生將學習如何規(guī)劃和統(tǒng)籌管理人們的出行，并思考人們的出行對經(jīng)濟、環(huán)境和社會所產(chǎn)生的影響。
