Students, you are joining a young and vibrant school. We have established a reputation for quality and we intend to keep it that way. We know you will assist in doing this. You come here to attend, behave, work and participate. There’s so much to do at our school to make your time here fun and productive. At the same time, your key job is to set yourself up for life beyond seco ndary schooling. Our motto says it all – Creating Our Futures.

Parents, welcome to you, too! Your son’s or daughter’s enrolment begins an im portant relationship. Together, we will watch your child grow into adulthood. Your home, of course, is the stro ngest educator and influence upon your teenager. We wish to build on that foundation to provide quality seco ndary education for your child, whether she or he is headed to work, university or further training. The high expectations we have in curriculum, learning and teaching, dress, behaviour and involvement can o nly be met, realistically, when we support each other. Please volunteer, ring our teachers, encourage your child to solve problems positively and, above all, please read our weekly newsletters – they are a great starting point for our home-school partnership.

Key School Values

Lots of values are inherent in every school! At our school, we particularly emphasise three Key Values. There are: showing Respect, demo nstrating Respo nsibility and seeking Excellence. These values are for all members of our school community – students, staff and parents.

School Motto

We refer to our school motto all the time. This is because it encapsulates our school philosophy. Creating Our Futuressays that it is each student’s job, with the help of parents and teachers, to set up himself or herself for life beyond high school.

Learning is an active, not passive, pursuit – it does not happen to a student, it is something that he or she actively decides to do

Statement of Purpose

We strive to provide, in partnership with the whole community, a quality learning enviro nment where students can maximise their potential to create positive futures.

At Tannum Sands State High School, you will find our students welcoming and you will make friends quickly. Our school community has welcomed internatio nal students since 2006. You add something special to our school. Our students learn from you, and you learn from us.

Here, you will experience the “true” Australian way of life. Our township is 10 000 people, with our next city, Gladstone (30 000), o nly 20 minutes’ drive away. You can access the cinemas, the beach, sporting facilities and many clubs. Our families will look after you well and show you the “Aussie” way of life e.g. BBQ’s, a relaxed lifestyle, love of nature and wonderful, sunny days. Perhaps you will even visit the Great Barrier Reef or the Gold Coast! You are certain to see kangaroos in their natural habitat.

Our school is well-disciplined and successful, with a wide range of subjects and extra-curricular activities. We have support staff here specially designated to look after you, as an internatio nal student.
