Dromana College is acknowledged as an excellent educatio nal facility within a caring school environment. We are committed to providing an inclusive and sustainable learning culture in which all our students develop the skills and perso nal qualities necessary to participate positively and co nfidently in a changing global community.
Our ability to tailor programs to meet the individual needs of students in achieving their perso nal best is underpinned by our pursuit of excellence in education and is reflected by our College values:
Respect
Respo nsibility
Integrity
Perso nal Best
In choosing to be part of the Dromana Seco ndary College community, students are committing to six years of seco ndary education and to demo nstrating behaviours which are co nducive to learning and reflect a commitment to the College values.
The subjects on offer encourage all students to do their best and are complemented by a diverse range of programs in music, dance, drama, photography, sport and many other co curricular activities.
Pastoral care encompasses all activities and develops strong relatio nships between staff and students that is nurtured in our sub-school structure and is evident in all we undertake. As a medium sized seco ndary school we are proud of our ability to strengthen the critical partnership between the teachers, parents and the student which is vital to a young persons success.
Quality teaching staff is the most im portant factor in any classroom. Dromana Seco ndary College has an excellent reputation for attracting and retaining motivated and committed staff. Our students have outstanding opportunities available to them and they are encouraged and expected to give of their very best in all of their College endeavours.
Regular attendance is essential - ‘It is not OK to be away’
Parents have a legal respo nsibility to satisfactorily explain all absences. If your child is going to be absent please leave a message on the Absence Line (03 5984 7177) prior to 9:00am. A signed and dated note from the parent for the Form Teacher explaining the absence must be brought to school on your child’s return. The college will co ntact parents of students who are absent without explanation.
Punctuality is essential. Students who arrive late to school must sign the ‘Late Arrival’ book located at Reception in the Administration Office and hand their signed Late Arrival Pass to their teacher. Late arrival due to ‘missing the bus’ or ‘slept in’ may attract a detention.
Students who intend to leave school any time during the day must have a note from their parents and must be signed out at Reception by the adult who is picking them up.

Homework is an integral part of Dromana College’s approach to helping all students maximise their achievements and to develop a life-long habit of independent learning. Home work is designed to support and supplement the learning process beyond the classroom. As students progress through schooling the work load steadily increases and the need for all students to develop sound study skills and co nsistent study habits is vital. Time at all year levels is required to be set aside each night and on weekends for the completion of unfinished tasks set by teachers during class and for home study.
Homework develops positive study techniques and encourages students to be respo nsible for their own learning. Setting regular and co nsistent homework assists students to establish a study routine. Homework is an opportunity for parents to engage in their student’s learning and strengthen the relatio nship between students, parents and teachers. Students are expected to complete all tasks and submit by the due date. Parents are encouraged to help their student establish regular study habits and to provide suitable physical co nditions to complete homework.

It is the policy of Dromana College that all students must wear school uniform. This is in keeping with our aim of developing in students a feeling of belo nging and a sense of identity. The positive image that the college presents to the community is given high priority. Students must wear the uniform on each school day and when on a school excursion and the uniform must be presentable at all times. If this is not possible, students must bring a note to their Head of Year before form meeting who will arrange an Out of Uniform pass. There are a series of co nsequences for students who are repeatedly out of uniform without a valid reason and students may be sent home. The costs of the uniform have been kept as low as possible and the uniform has been designed for easy maintenance, student comfort and protection.
