一、專業(yè)概況

英國作為一個島國，有著豐富的旅游資源和會議組織管理經(jīng)驗，酒店業(yè)也是相當發(fā)達，開設旅游酒店管理的各大高?；旧隙寂c當?shù)厣踔寥驑I(yè)界有著緊密的聯(lián)系。很多最早的旅游和酒店管理專業(yè)的課程都是在英國首創(chuàng)的，在這一點上來看，英國擁有其他國家所無可比擬的專業(yè)知識和經(jīng)驗。除此之外，英國高水準的教學方式、高質量的教學設施以及高實用性的課程都是吸引大批國際學生前去學習的重要原因，很多院校還為酒店管理專業(yè)的學生提供半年到一年的帶薪實習機會，讓學生獲得豐富的海外工作經(jīng)驗，從而增強自己的競爭力。傳統(tǒng)的英式旅游和酒店管理教學，比較擅長管家式的服務管理。英國的商科世界領先，所以其酒店管理專業(yè)更偏重管理。像瑞士或者法國的一些旅游和酒店管理專業(yè)著重從與酒店管理的各種細節(jié)性問題學起，包括客房布置、前臺接待等各種服務細節(jié)，一直學習到管理。而英國的旅游和酒店管理專業(yè)更加著重管理方面，細節(jié)性問題更多的是在實習的過程中學習，這更加符合當前國際上酒店業(yè)擴張的需要。

二、專業(yè)設置

酒店、旅游、會展這三個專業(yè)方向的學生通常都屬于同一個院系，因為他們所學習的專業(yè)技能有很多相通之處。而他們的區(qū)別在于：酒店管理方向更偏重于學習酒店、餐廳、宴會及活動的運作。課程涉及質量管理、最流行的食品和飲品、前臺以及客房服務技能等。會展管理方向的課程內容相對更加全面，包括：如何策劃、宣傳和執(zhí)行一項活動;這里所說的活動形式會更加多樣化，從小型婚禮到大型會議，或者諸如American super bowl(美國超級碗)之類的大型賽事都是要學習的內容。旅游管理方向的學生將學習如何規(guī)劃和統(tǒng)籌管理人們的出行，并思考人們的出行對經(jīng)濟、環(huán)境和社會所產生的影響。
