美國留學一篇好的why school論文究竟該怎么寫,才能充分展示你對夢校的愛又不卑不亢?哪些“過于真實”的擇校理由更是萬萬不能寫?這里我們就帶大家一起來看看對夢校表白的正確方式。

你為什么選擇我們?

許多大學都會要求申請者提交“你為什么選擇我們”的論文。因為他們希望,學生們在本校度過的大學時光,不僅僅是為了完成學業(yè),更是為了長遠發(fā)展。美國留學申請材料

之所以提出這個問題,就是為了看看申請者是否真的對這個學校感興趣,以及這所學校是否適合申請者。

以塔夫茨大學和西北大學為例,二者都要求申請者闡述學校的哪一點吸引了你,西北大學則需要更近一步說明,你將如何利用他們的資源來實現(xiàn)目標。

而通常來說,“why school”論文是一個非常直截了當?shù)膯栴},寫作時可以直接解釋你喜歡這個學校的哪一點以及為什么。

但是注意,有些“你我心知肚明”的理由,并不適合寫進論文里。這里和大家分享一個反面教材:

I’m applying to Tufts because of its low student to faculty ratio,the strong math department,and its prime location in Medford,just a hop away from Boston.When I visited campus,the school already felt like home.

我之所以申請塔夫茨大學,是因為它的師生比很低,數(shù)學系很強,而且它的地理位置在Medford,離波士頓只有一步之遙。當我參觀校園時,就已經(jīng)有了回家的感覺。

在這個例子中,滿足“師生比低、數(shù)學系強、且在波士頓周圍”的學校有很多,比如哈佛大學、波士頓學院東北大學等,這些理由被看作是沒有針對性的,放之諸校皆可的一般性特征。

此外,“它讓我有回家的感覺”這句話聽起來不錯,但其實沒有任何實質(zhì)內(nèi)容,也是“發(fā)給哪個妹妹都可以的”海王語錄。更重要的是,全文沒有提到學生的目標或者興趣。

這三個buff疊加,可能會向?qū)W校傳遞出一個信息:你沒有認真研究過這所學校,而且對學校并不是真的感興趣。感覺到“被備胎”的學校很有可能把你列入候補名單或者直接拒掉。

劃重點,我們應該避雷的是:

引用學校的一般數(shù)據(jù),如位置、天氣、規(guī)模、排名等。

列舉空洞的情感表達,沒有描述你的興趣或目標。

好的“why school”怎么寫?

還是以塔夫茨大學為例,經(jīng)過修改的“why school”可以這樣寫:

在論述學術(shù)理由時,可以自由地列出吸引你的獨特項目、獨特專業(yè)、獨特課程等。當然,大學不僅只有學習,招生委員會也希望他們錄取的學生可以為大學發(fā)展做出貢獻,所以課堂外的理由也是非常有必要的。
